Glastonbury comes to the North-East! One of the biggest names in contemporary folk music is going to headline Stonehaven's hogmany party this year.

The Peatbog Faeries are playing in Open Air In The Square's gig. The Isle of Skye band are Peter Morrison (pipes & whistles); Ross Couper (fiddles); Tom Salter (guitars); Graeme Stafford (keyboards); Innes Hutton (bass & percussion) and Stu Haikney (drums).  In 2012 they were a nominee for “Best Live Act” at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, having already twice won “Live Act of the Year” at the Scottish Traditional Music Awards. They are playing the Avalon stage at Glastonbury again later this month.

The stylish blend of pipes, fiddles and celtic dance music will also feature a spectacular light show at the bells.  A band spokesman said: “For 2014 we will be presenting a new and exciting light and laser show that will bring yet another dimension to the unique Peatbog performance. Catch this and be amazed!”

Fans of the group won't need to keep their passports handy as much as usual this year. They have been to the USA in the past, and finished off their Australian tour in January having wowed the Woodford Folk Festival as well as shows in Currumbin, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.  But they are still busy in 2014 with dates all over the UK. See their facebook page for details.

My, haven't The Peatbog Fairies come along since they played the Samhuinn Fire and Music Festival in Aboyne in 2007?!?

Book tickets at OAITS's website and keep an eye out for more big acts this Hogmanay.
