Day 16 of the Queens Baton Relay started bright and early at Dunnottar Castle, with Lathallan teacher Lisa Singleton handing over the baton to Professor Sue Black. There are pictures of them in The Herald along with Barnaby Simpkin at the castle and Brian Hendry on the beach! Sarah-Louise MIlne also joined in the fun. The procession passed along Allardice Street to the Open Air Pool, and then headed back along Baclay Street before it went past Mackie Academy and off to Banchory.

Aberdeenshire Provost Jill Webster said: “I am delighted to be welcoming the Queen’s Baton Relay to Aberdeenshire. I am sure that people in all our communities will be keen to support local baton bearers and begin the celebrations leading up to a fantastic Commonwealth Games. The relay is a chance to showcase the incredible Aberdeenshire scenery and vibrant towns and villages to a global audience."

Caitlin Munro performed the honours in Banchory along with Kirstie McBeath and Ian Finlayson.  Alisatair Brodie was the proud torch bearer as the procession headed off through Dunecht to Kintore and then headed off to spend the rent of Sunday touring Port Elphinstone, Inverurie, Oldmeldrum, Turriff, Banff, Macduff, Fraserburgh and Mintlaw before ending up in Peterhead. On Monday it starts off in Bridge of Don with a busy day planned throughout Aberdeen before flying on to Lerwick on Tuesday.
